Problem gambling impacts about 4-8% of youths, compared to just 1% of adults.
Starting a conversation with youth now can help to prevent gambling from becoming a problem for them later. That’s why it’s important to talk to youth about gambling today-just as you would discuss other threats to their well-being like alcohol substances, and tobacco. Gambling is another, less-recognized risk that impacts teens’ brain development-maybe more than you think. We also know that when young teens experiment with alcohol, substances and vaping, they put themselves at a higher risk for addiction later in life. We expect teens to test limits as they gain independence.
